National Service Scheme also known as NSS was started in 1969 to commemorate the Birth Centenary Year of honourable Mahatma Gandhi which functions under the guidelines of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. Our college has an active unit of 100 NSS volunteers. In every academic session, college invites application from students to voluntarily participate in the activities being conducted by NSS department. The students thus selected work as student-volunteers of NSS. Activities under NSS are chalked out with a focus on all round development of the personality of students. Students of our college have played a vital role in respect of community service. Students are encouraged to participate in various activities like Cleanliness Drive, Traffic Awareness Drive, Tree Plantation, Shramdaan, Blood Donation, Disaster Management, Voter Awareness Programme and so on. They are also motivated to participate in Orientation, Training Programmes and NSS camps being conducted at college, university and state level. A student completing 240 hours as an active student-volunteer in the span of two years are issued certificate by the college. Through all these activities, efforts are made to enhance their awareness about their social and civic responsibilities. The primary aim of the NSS unit of our college is to arouse social-consciousness among students. Students are made to understand the problems which often confront our society and nation at large and to utilize their knowledge to suggest possible solutions to it. It also lays special emphasis on fostering leadership skills in them. In the most befitting words, NSS Unit of our college has been working as a bridge between our students and community.
